How it all started
Our association with Project Nanhi Kali started in 2007 when some of us individually sponsored the education of young girls through Project Nanhi Kali. The passion and dedication of the Nanhi Kali team in India was extremely heartening to see, and further correspondence with them encouraged us to get more involved with the overall cause of education for girls in India.
In early 2008, we stepped up to volunteer for Project Nanhi Kali in the United States. We put forth a proposal to establish the first and only chapter in the US, and Nanhi Kali management very much welcomed and supported that initiative.
Since then, we have been very successful in spreading awareness and raising funds for this cause within our network and around the Boston area and in the process officially launching Project Nanhi Kali’s Boston Chapter in August 2008.
Goals of the Boston Chapter
- Gain support, spread awareness and raise funds for Project Nanhi Kali in the United States.
- Assist Project Nanhi Kali in reaching its goal of supporting education of over 100,000 girls.
- Establish, train and lead the way for other Nanhi Kali chapters throughout the US.
- Partner with other non-profit organizations and corporates to encourage social awareness and responsibility towards educating underprivileged girl children in India.
MISSION STATEMENT
Nanhi Kali’s mission is to ensure that every girl child in India can complete 10 years of formal quality education thereby uplifting the stature of underprivileged girls in society.
The Boston Chapter’s mission is to establish the Mahindra Foundation and Project Nanhi Kali’s presence in the US by creating awareness, raising funds, providing information and supporting activities that promote the overall mission.
